CSB was established by Clive S. Barker in October 1989, originally providing specialist export packing and shipping services to engineering industries. In 1991 we opened our Charlton depot – a 35,000 sqft specialist storage and handling facility with four DEMAG gantry cranes providing an impressive undercover lifting capacity of 30 tonnes.

CSB quickly gained a reputation and developed strong relationships with leading engineering companies. But with UK manufacturing in steady decline, and therefore the need for export packing, we began to focus on developing other core services.

Project Logistics, transit storage, and freight consolidation had all been aspects of our export services, and we recognised that overseas manufacturers supplying London construction projects were in need of similar solutions to help control Just-In-Time supply to site – particularly local storage solutions with specialist handling facilities.

While maintaining a smaller level of export packing and shipping, by 1997 the revenue and client base from construction logistics services was growing rapidly.

In answer to the ever evolving needs of the industry, innovative new services continued to be developed, such as FAIRCLAD® – Using export packing expertise the Fire And Impact Resistant Cladding system was designed to protect plant room equipment from ongoing construction works.

CSB recognises that our reputation is reliant on innovation and a process of continuous improvement, to enhance the value throughout all of our services. We believe that future success lies in partnering with like-minded companies. By working in partnership at all levels of a supply chain we can extend the scope of project logistics, and ultimately achieve the best possible supply coordination.
